About Sarah-Jane Lam MA (Cantab) MBBS MRCOG
Dr Lam is a consultant obstetrician offering private pregnancy care including private births at The Portland Hospital London.
Committed to providing comprehensive and compassionate maternity care, her years of experience looking after thousands of women make her a trusted partner for every stage of pregnancy and childbirth.
Dr Lam qualified in 2004 after gaining her BA with First-class honours from the University of Cambridge and MBBS with Distinction from Imperial College School of Medicine.
After becoming a consultant obstetrician in 2014 at The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, she was appointed the Lead for Obstetric Risk in 2018 and has been the Clinical Lead for the Obstetric Service since 2022.
Specialising in maternal medicine, perinatal mental health, and high-risk intrapartum care, she is experienced in caring for women with complex medical conditions and mental health conditions.
Dr Lam also offers pre-pregnancy counselling for women with pre-existing medical conditions to help optimise and plan for pregnancy.
With extensive experience in managing a maternity service in the NHS, Dr Lam has a deep understanding of governance and safety processes in obstetrics.

The Portland London is the UK’s only fully private hospital offering maternity services. With over 1,400 deliveries a year the hospital is focused on providing exceptional safety and care for both you and your baby.
The holistic pregnancy services available at The Portland include ultrasound scans using state-of-the-art equipment. Dr Lam will advise you on antenatal screening and scans and these can be arranged to coincide with your consultations.
An expert midwife will be assigned to support you throughout your labour and delivery as well as to provide guidance after the birth with areas such as feeding your new baby and supporting you as a new mother.
